Raw canvas into statement

senscommon per-piece dye variations | senscommon

Our per-piece dye range is crafted entirely from eucalyptus tree fiber, called Tencel™, right down to the threading. We've written about over the extractive cotton fiber before.

The senscommon per-piece dye range celebrates the silk-like properties of this fiber and combines it with a production process mandatory for garments made of lyocell — pre-shrinking. Designed with this inevitable laundry process in mind, the garments were first manufactured from white fabric and then manually dyed in a unique pattern — drastically minimizing the use of water and chemicals all while pre-shrinking your shirt to its final fit.

At senscommon, we prioritize environmental benefits, even when faced with challenges. Instead of dismissing finicky natural fibers, we learn to work with them.

Coloring sustainability

Picture this: Our garments are first made with 'ecru' Tencel™ fabric, untouched and uncolored. 'Ecru' signifies pure, natural fiber – no bleaching, no dyes, no softeners. We take advantage of this state, when the Tencel™ fabric is the most stable, almost like paper to cut and sew the perfect garments.

To accommodate the typical 7-11% shrinkage in lyocell fabrics, we've cut each piece much bigger before adding color to it and pre-shrinking in the same laundry spin. This innovative way of designing not only reduces water and chemical usage but also adds an element of fun, as we anticipate and embrace the fraying of some edges in the process.

Minimizing chemical use as much as possible in this dyeing process is the reason we've adopted a color-on-demand approach for a very large set of sizes. From XS to XXL - a size offering otherwise impossible.

One-of-a-kind dyeing process

Just a 30 minute drive from the senscommon studio in Porto, is our partner dyeing house and Pedro, our color maestro who takes each piece on a creative journey. Whether he's manually dripping pigment onto a hanging garment or intricately folding them to achieve that coveted dazzled deep-water pattern, each step is a work of art. We keep this art confidential.

With Pedro and the rest of the team, we've had loads of fun bringing you per-piece dyed , , , , , shorts and even . Join us in embracing the artistry and eco-consciousness woven into every piece of this range.
